Information: doctor, hospital & chemist’s.

We hope that you won’t need them but for good order’s sake we will show you the ropes.

We have made arrangements with a very good doctor so that he knows about regular guests in our holiday-home. When you phone him for a home visit, which is no problem at all for him, tell him you are in Ton Breeweg’s holiday-home (project 2 – dua) in Bukti.

Details:

Dr Gede Handra

Jl.A Yani/Bukit Indah 1

Banyasri Singaraja

Tel. 0362-23798
Mobile 0812 3605733

Here he has his own practice from 07.00 to 09.00 and from 18.00 to 21.00, 7 days a week. But remember you can always reach him on his mobile in case of an emergency.

His address can be found as follows:

Upon arrival in the centre of Singaraja you must turn left because of one-way traffic. After about 500 metres turn right at the first major road and straight on at the next traffic-lights. Again, after about 1 kilometre, straight on at the traffic-lights. Then after about 700 metres, you will come across a triangular square with a petrol station and a large statue in the middle where you must turn left and immediately right again in the direction of Lovina. You will then leave Singaraja under an arch stating SINGARAJA SAKTI. After this arch continue for about 500 metres and on your left is a narrow street where at the
beginning is a white sign with dr Handra’s name.

Dr Handra is also the manager of the local hospital at the following address:

RSU, Kertha Usada,

Jl. Cendrawasih nr 5

Singaraja

Tel. 0362-26278

They also have a few private wards there if need be, and the hospital can be found as follows:

Drive to the centre where you must turn left because of one-way traffic. After 500 metres turn right at the first major road and go straight on at the following traffic-lights.

After some 300 metres from the traffic-lights (a small distance past the FUJI shop) there is a narrow street to the right. The hospital is situated at the end of this street.

A chemists’s can a.o. be found in Singaraja’s main street and close to the hospital. Dr Handra also has a pharmacy with his practice.

Important telephone numbers and contacts on and around Bali.

- Our mobile number on Bali: +62(0) 8123862950. This phone, however, is not available for numbers outside Bali.

- Sudi mobile nr 081 23866609 or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it of our Bali helpdesk.

- BII Bank in Singaraja nr 0362-21234 or 21235 has cash-machines. They are also agents for Western Union to have money transferred directly from your own country in case of emergency. In your country the post-offices are the agents for W.U. but be aware the quite some costs are involved.

- Awie (the teakman, as we call him) nr 081-23945764. He made our four-poster bed, writing- table, wall unit and cot and we can fully recommend him in case you would like to buy furniture for your own home. You will find him beyond Singaraja in the direction of Lovina on the left hand side of the road.

- Mondial Cargo in Denpasar. Our business is worldwide expedition and we have appointed this agent in case goods are bought on Bali or even the whole of Indonesia that have to be picked up, packed and shipped to Rotterdam, Europe or any place in the world. You can simply pay all costs, also made here on Bali with regard to transport, to us here in Holland. Our advice is: if you have bought large goods which can’t be transported by plane, apart from bargaining for a low purchase price, stipulate that the seller packs the goods and delivers them to Mondial. Of course, Mondial can do that as well but that always leads to higher
expenses.

If you wish to stay for one or more days in the south after arrival or departure to and from your home country, we can be of assistance by booking good and luxury hotels. Please inform us well in time.

This is a must when going back home: Spend the night before your departure in the south ( to do some shopping) and subsequently get on board your plane without being tired. This will save you the 3-hour drive from our holiday home to Denpasar Airport.

We are always at your service for advice on these matters.

Shopping etc….

Close to our holiday-home are some small shops for necessities, but don’t expect too much.

Good news for those among you who like fish. The local fishermen regularly drop by to sell all sorts of fish. You will certainly have to bargain, or let Iluh or Moni do that for you. Fish can be bought along the road as well.

In Singaraja are a number of good supermarkets, such as:

- Cahaya Baru. As soon as you enter Singaraja this is situated about 1,500 metres from the traffic-lights, at your right hand side.

- Hardy’s. To be found as follows: Upon arrival in the centre of Singaraja you must turn left because of one-way traffic. After about 500 metres, take the first main street to the right. Then, after the next traffic-lights (directly after the BCA Bank where there are cash- machines), immediately right again. Go straight on and after the 2nd traffic-lights Hardy’s is on your left.

- The Pasar, the daily market, can be found as follows: Drive as stated above (to Hardy’s), but turn right at the BCA Bank into the main street, which is also one-way. Here are already many little shops and parallel to the main street you can enter the Pasar where especially vegetables and fruit are for sale. Always bargain as much as you can for that is customary on Bali and certainly on a Pasar.

There are also a number of Chinese shops where you can buy things other than those in the supermarkets, such as wine, liquor, frozen goods, butter, mayonnaise etc. You will find them as follows:

GLORIA, the small Chinese: drive again as mentioned above but at BCA and the traffic-lights just drive on. Gloria is on your right just past the crossing.

WIJAYA, the large Chinese is the same way but now after the traffic-lights about 700 metres on your right (just past Mandiri Bank). There is also a confectionery.

Agrobis (tel. 0362-26667) takes orders for groceries by phone. There is a list in the tray on the writing-table. You are advised to ask Ketut to phone them for they don’t speak English.

Our last tip concerns bread. You can eat it, especially when you use a toaster. However, Malibu (tel. 0362-41671) bake French bread and croissants all day. You can collect these on the through road in Lovina but they also deliver their bread at your home at the cost of Rupiah 25,000. You are advised to let Ketut place the order for the people at Malibu speak English rather badly.

Transport and travelling on Bali.

UYou can always make use of Jos our chauffeur’s services for trips on the island of Bali. For prices see the menu: ” What are the costs of renting our holiday villa Time Out ”.

All over Bali small buses travel, so-called BEMO’S.

When you walk on to the road from our holiday-home, you just have to raise your hand and they will stop. Mind you, traffic on Bali drives on the left. It is quite an experience to do this once in any case .It is quite possible that hens or even pigs travel with their owner in the Bemo! There are Bemo’s in different colours, like yellow, blue, dark-red and beige.

You can also rent a Bemo for private use, so that the driver stays with you the whole of your shopping-trip. Agree upon the price with the driver before departure from our villa and pay after your return

Things to know about Bali before you start,

such as passports, airlines, tourist-tax, vaccination etc.

- Your passport must be valid for 6 months after departure from Bali, so keep that in mind.

- Several airlines fly to and from Denpasar Airport, all via different stops, such as:

Cathay Pacific via Hong Kong

Singapore Airlines via Singapore

Malaysian Airlines via Kuala Lumpur

Etc.

- When (unfortunately) you leave Bali again, please take into account that you will have to pay some sort of tourist-tax amounting to Rupiah 150,000 (about 13 euros) per person. Also important is the white tourist-“embarkation/disembarkation”-form, which each traveller had to complete upon arrival and which has to be handed in at your departure. High fines are imposed in case you can’t produce them.

For necessary vaccination we refer you to your G.P. or local Health Service. We are not really in the sticks so normally spoken not much can happen here. However, situations may vary per individual and one person can find him/herself in other areas than another. As far as we know there is no malaria on Bali.

For additional information you can consult internet-pages regarding vaccinations:
